Inspired by a real life 1978 kidnapping, RAPT is a tense, skillfully directed hostage thriller that explores the murky moral grey area between greedy criminals and greedy executives. Snatched outside his luxurious home on the eve of a high-powered business trip to China, industrialist Stanislas Graff (Yvan Attal) is plunged into a nightmarish world of isolation, degradation and mutilation. With an exorbitant 50 million Euro ransom demand on the table, his company, his family and the police are faced with difficult decisions. A media frenzy reveals that Graff is not the devoted family man he appears, but has a longtime mistress as well as shady gambling debts. Director Lucas Belvaux (A Trilogy) confounds expectations, finding more tension and intrigue in the shifting relationships and motives than in the money drop and chase. Yvan Attal (My Wife Is an Actress, Munich, Leaving) is outstanding as the pampered playboy whose life is transformed by his ordeal. Co-starring Anne Consigny (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and Alex Descas (35 Shots of Rum).
