A veteran of many musical campaigns (Tom Waits, B-52’s, Black Francis, Jonathan Richman, Stan Ridgway), Ralph Carney is at it again and this time he's doubling as bandleader and horn-blower to his own line-up, Ralph Carney’s Serious Jass Project. For the band’s first release, Carney picked some of his favorite music from Duke Ellington’s small band recordings from the late 1930s, a couple of honkers and screamers by Big Jay McNeely and Lee Allen, and a rather cool rendering of Bix and Tram’s “Futuristic Rhythm.”
