The Mid America Freedom Band (MAFB), Kansas City’s lesbian gay bisexual transgender (LGBT) and ally community band, will present the concert Rainbow Revolution on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 8 p.m., at the Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47th Street, Kansas City, MO 64112. Tickets for the concert can be purchased for $10 at the band’s website (www.mafbmusic.org) as well as at the door the day of the event.

This will be the group’s first concert that intertwines the music in a timely, political, informational, and visual manner. Forty years ago the Stonewall Riots in New York City jump-started the modern LGBT civil rights movement. MAFB will celebrate that anniversary with this musically and mentally stimulating concert event. Rainbow Revolution will be a tribute and celebration of the music, events, and people that have shaped our fight for freedom and acceptance over those 40 years and beyond.

The concert will feature special guest Missouri State Senator Jolie Justus as well as other community celebrities and personalities that have collaborated to help tell the story behind their musical selections. It has been both fun and challenging to create and build the music repertoire for this concert including selections from the musical HAIR, “The Wedding March” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Camille Saint-Saens’ “Finale” from Symphony #3 Avec Organ featuring guest organist Robert Rowlett. The group also invited ten other community organizations to participate in the event and help promote community involvement and cohesion.
