Rafe Chase and Geri Lawlor lit up the Dark Room this past April with their singular-brand of comedy improvisation. The audience response was so overwhelming that they were inspired to re-team for a longer run at the very same venue beginning the weekend of August 24 & 25 and continuing on for the next two Fridays and Saturdays. Geri and Rafe--two of the most prominent members of San Francisco’s burgeoning comedy improv scene—solicit suggestions from the audience and as if by magic, spontaneously create scenes from thin air. An improvised “Film” provides a narrative framework for each evening’s performances.
Rafe Chase began improvising professionally in 1978 with Flash Family at the Old Spaghetti Factory in North Beach. He became a Company Player with BATS Improv in 1987 and the following year helped establish the critically acclaimed group Pulp Playhouse. In addition to his work with Gerri he is one third of “3 for All”: an improv team that has wowed audiences in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Gerri Lawlor took her first improv class in 1986, her sophomore year in high school and by 1991 was a Company Player with BATS Improv. Her film work includes the improvised movies “Sucker Fish” and “Security”. A gifted singer, Gerri also performs with the vocal ensemble “Tonal Chaos” and the band “Sexy Lilliputians”.
