Mixed Greens Monthly Screening
Radiophobia

Return to the scene of the world’s worst civilian nuclear disaster and enter into the “zone” of the Chernobyl power plant explosion. Radiophobia retraces the Chernobyl disaster twenty years later. Engineers soberly recount the fateful test of April 26, 1986, two women who return in tears to their childhood home, and surviving soldiers who ruefully describe the clean up that cost untold lives.

Spanish director, Julio Soto's film, Radiophobia mixes with archival films of Prypiat, Ukraine, the once model Soviet city, and contemporary footage of a ghost town. A Ferris wheel looms in a landscape of empty apartment buildings, a dog’s carcass sits frozen on a bed, and radioactive dust gathers inside an abandoned maternity ward.
