Radclyffe Hall is famous for writing the banned lesbian book, 'The Well of Loneliness.' Hall was a passionate contradiction: a devout Catholic convert who held seances to contact her deceased lover. This talk investigates her spiritualism, her Catholicism, and her sexuality, and how each of them informed her writing.

Esther Saxey wrote the Wordsworth Editions introduction to The Well of Loneliness in 2005. She teaches 20th century literature at Goldsmiths, University of London.
