Take classical piano, add rock-inspired electric guitar, toss in swanky drum sets and you get an idea of why Rachel James immediately made good in the Denver music scene. With the guts and pipes to front true blue rock and roll, Rachel is equally empowered in her haunting, piano-driven ballads. Packing years of musical training, she fosters an ease and energy onstage that has audience members jumping up and singing along. The riotous applause may be out of appreciation for a female rocker more Joplin than Lavine. It could be because Rachel is quite simply a hot young piece of sass. Or it might just be that when great lyrics, brilliant musicianship and live presence meet, listeners can't help but show their gratitude.
