Musical Tells Story of Pioneer Life Through Quilts

The Castle Performing Arts Center presents “Quilters” at Bright Theatre in Kaneohe

The Castle Performing Arts Center, will present Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek’s Quilters, Oct. 20, 21, 27, and 28th at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 22 and 29 at 2 p.m. The musical features a cast of 18 young women portraying the lives of American pioneers, and is directed by Karen L. Meyer. Musical Direction is by Callie Doan and Judy Yoshioka, with Lloyd S. Riford III designing lights.

Set in the mid-1800s, Tony Award-nominated Quilters celebrates the life-affirming spirit of a mother and her six daughters through music, dance, song, words and quilting. A heartwarming and heart-wrenching drama, the action depicts the lot of women on the frontier: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. “Quilters is an engaging way to bring the challenges and triumphs of pioneer women to life. Their journey westward and through the decades reveals each woman’s own personal journey and fortitude of character.”

Tickets are $12 for adults; $8 for students and seniors over 65. For reservations and tickets, call 233-5626.
