About event:
On Saturday April 26th, Kristi Engle Gallery will present for one night only, artist/musician Jim Ovelmen's "Queens of Sorrow." Through animation and music, Ovelmen examines the paradoxes inherent in America's so-called "gilded age" of the late 19th century and the legacy it engendered. Developing pen & ink drawings into 3-D computer animation, Ovelmen has created the opulent yet cold surroundings of a Vanderbilt style mansion. Tension is created by an incongruent combination of the elegant setting and the strange, coarse behaviors of the characters that inhabit it, including one based on the folk singer/musician Townes Van Zandt. A projection of the animation will be combined with a live musical performance by the artist.
