The Consulate General of Canada in Boston is proud to support

Quebec and Massachusetts:
Common Challenges and Opportunities in a Globalized World

The keynote speech will be delivered by the Quebec Delegate to New England,
Mr. Jean-Stéphane Bernard,
who will first address the topic of public diplomacy with an emphasis on Quebec’s role in the international scene as a federated state.

Mr. Bernard’s presentation will be followed by three panels focused on the following themes: economic development, integration of newcomers and cultural identity. These panels will be animated by three Quebec researchers paired with UMass-Boston experts in these fields.

The common thread will be the following: in the globalized world of the 21st century, how does Massachusetts and Quebec cope with challenges and opportunities in areas such as economic development, integration of new immigrants and cultural identity?

This is a great opportunity not only to know more about a pioneer in the public diplomacy of sub-state actors, but also to understand key contemporary issues at stake both in Massachusetts and in Quebec.

This free event is open to the public and will be held on

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012
starting at 2 p.m.
at UMass-Boston
Healey Library, 11th floor.

A networking reception will immediately follow.
