Purvis Young From the Tampa Museum of Art's Collection May 11, 2007

This exhibition features a portion of the 91 paintings by self-taught artist, Purvis Young. Young draws much of his inspiration from urban scenes he has witnessed in Overtown, a black neighborhood on the margin of downtown Miami. Using materials that he finds, recycles, combines, and constructs, Young produces paintings that echo the hopes, joys and realism of his world.
