This exhibition illustrates the cultures of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam as captured by French artist and professor Jean Despujols. In May of 1936 Jean Despujols was selected for a special assignment by the Grand Conseil Economique of French Indochina. He was sent to travel through Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam to record on canvas and paper the cultures of these regions. Despujols, a fifty-year-old professor at the American Academy of Fine Arts at Fontainebleau, traveled through Indochina for twenty months. This collection includes his paintings, textiles and drawings.
