Press Release:
Los Angeles, CA (Oct. 13, 2006) – To help Angelenos rediscover the lost art of public transportation, youth activism organization Global Inheritance—in partnership with FUEL TV, the 24/7 action sports cable network and Zune, Microsoft's new MP3 player—is proud to announce Public Displays of Affection, the first concert event in a series On October 24, 2006 at 7:30 p.m., in the historic Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, anyone who rides the train or bus into Union Station that day will be able to use their ticket stub to enter a concert and photo exhibit held exclusively for public transportation patrons.

Performing for free is rock band The Secret Machines. The band, who hails from New York City, will showcase songs from its critically acclaimed albums “Now Here Is Nowhere” and “Ten Silver Drops.” Street artist Shepard Fairey of “Obey Giant” guerilla-art fame will be supporting the band with his DJ talents.

In addition to the evening’s live music, an art exhibit by celebrity photo-blogger The Cobrasnake (Los Angeleno Mark Hunter) will feature his works documenting L.A.'s public transportation system.

PDA was created to raise awareness and ridership within L.A.'s public transportation system and to highlight the environmental benefits of public transportation and ride sharing.

“Besides the obvious fuel-saving benefits, using public transportation also brings people from every lifestyle together,” says Global Inheritance founder Eric Ritz. “And an event like PDA provides the opportunity for everyone to interact—from the woman next-door to the guy who rode in from Pomona.”

"L.A. needs more mental circulation," adds Secret Machines' drummer Josh Garza. "Global Inheritance is on the right path providing people a reason to jump on the subway and enjoy the ride."

One person who has already caught on is FUEL TV’s VP of Marketing and On-Air Promotions, Jake Munsey, who says, “I ride the bus to work everyday and it doesn’t take me that much longer to get to the office. People need to realize that using LA public transportation is a lot easier than they think.”

During the event, a recycling center will be set up at Union Station for old cell phones, VHS tapes, and CD jewel cases. And Global Inheritance staff will be on site to provide information about youth activism and environmentalism.

Union Station is located at 800 North Alameda St. in downtown Los Angeles.

Additional event supporters include Goldenvoice, Indie 103 FM, LA Weekly, A.D.D. Marketing, and Eyerus Propaganda.

Public Displays of Affection will run a series of events promoting public transportation in Southern California throughout 2006-2007. For more information, go to www.globalinheritance.org.
