"Psychological Dimensions of Nationalism and Conflict" October 27, 2011

“Psychological Dimensions of Nationalism and Conflict” will be the topic of the next Colloquium Series in Psychological Sciences and Human Behavior presentation at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Dr. Joshua Searle-White, chair of the psychology department at Allegheny College, will discuss why, from a psychological point of view, nationalist conflicts continue despite the best efforts of multiple generations of diplomats and conflict-resolution specialists. His presentation takes place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Reed Auditorium, located on the second floor of Penn State Behrend’s Reed Union Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
Searle-White has extensively researched Russian and American national identity, and, most recently, studied wars in Sri Lanka, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh and Fiji. These conflicts served as the backdrops for his 2001 book “The Psychology of Nationalism.”
