2007 PSU National Undergraduate Symposium in Art History, April 27-28

What:

Portland State University's Department of Art presents a lecture, “Love, Truth, Orthodoxy, Reticence: Botticelli's Primavera” by Rebecca Zorach on the great hallmark of Renaissance painting, Primavera by Sandro Botticelli (c. 1482). A University of Chicago art historian, Zorach has captured the attention of many through her lively and engaging work on gender in both contemporary and Renaissance art. She comes to Portland as the distinguished keynote speaker for the 2007 PSU National Undergraduate Symposium in Art History.

In conjunction with the lecture, a symposium will feature ten outstanding undergraduates from across the country to present their original research in art history. Representing Amherst, Colorado College, Miami University, Northwestern and Portland State, among others, students will explore topics ranging from the mosaics at San Vitale in Ravenna to Renaissance murals, royal portraiture in the seventeenth century, architectural memorials and contemporary Japanese painting.

Cost:
The lecture and symposium are free and open to the public.

Background:
Rebecca Zorach has published articles in Wired magazine as well as numerous scholarly works such as her book, Blood, Milk, Ink, Gold: Abundance and Excess in the French Renaissance (2005) and contributions to Other Objects of Desire: Collectors and Collecting Queerly (2001).
