Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin made a name for herself this year by raising the most money in one day as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice. The actress, whose family learned when she was 18 months old that she had lost her hearing, will be in Seattle Oct. 12 to help Providence Mount St. Vincent raise money for the seniors who live there.

"Ms. Matlin is such an amazing person in the way that she communicates and the passion she exhibits that Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation is excited to have her speak at our Legacy Community Luncheon about `Listening with your heart,'" said Molly Swain, head of the organization's fundraising efforts. "The power of being present to one another and truly listening is important, especially to older adults and those with disabilities. Ms. Matlin will talk about listening with your heart, overcoming obstacles, and reaching for your dreams. As she often says, 'The only thing I can't do is hear.'"

Matlin became the youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar at age 21 for her role in Children of a Lesser God. She has appeared in numerous other movies and television shows, including this year's Celebrity Apprentice, where she was a finalist. In 2008 she competed on Dancing with the Stars.

Matlin will be joined at the luncheon by Seattle native and acclaimed composer Mateo "Matt" Messina. He will share his family's experience with Providence Mount St. Vincent, affectionately known as "The Mount," and his mother's journey through Alzheimer's disease. Mateo will also perform musical selections from his television and film compositions, such as pieces from the popular film, Juno.

Reservations are required and guests will be invited to donate to support residents and programs of Providence Mount St. Vincent. Donors who give more than $250 will be invited to attend a private reception with Matlin after the luncheon and will receive an autographed copy of her best-selling memoir, I'll Scream Later.
