Join us for the 2009 SAFE Beacon award winner Prof. Colin Renfrew's lecture entitled "Combating the Illicit Antiquities Trade: a Time for Clarity". Professor Renfrew will argue that a point of crisis has been reached in the destruction of the world's archaeological heritage, and that this can be met only by a general agreement not to acquire unprovenanced antiquities. James Cuno's recent book "Who Owns Antiquity?" makes some good points, but fails (Renfrew suggests) to clarify the issue of restitution. It is time for some clear thinking!

Prof. Renfrew has played a prominent role in the cultural heritage debate for more than two decades. His presentation is sure to enliven the debate over the repatriation of cultural patrimony, which dominates public discourse today. Click to find out more about Prof. Renfrew.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
