Harold Gullan will present "Jumping Through Hoops: Why Penn Wins" on March 20 at 5:30 p.m.

"Jumping Through Hoops" uses the 2005-06 season as a springboard to examine the Penn Men's Basketball program. Gullan, a professional historian as well as a longtime hoops aficionado, examines everything from the architecture at Penn, to then-head coach Fran Dunphy to the great Penn-Princeton rivalry. The book includes contributions by Steve Danley, Penn Class of 2007, and Mike Mahoney, Penn's director of athletic communications.

"'Jumping Through Hoops' is really far less about why Penn wins than why Penn matters," says Paul Rubincam, executive director of the Philadelphia Big 5. "It is a kind of conversation initiated by Hal Gullan in his unique style, always stimulating and often witty."

Gullan made the transition from a career in advertising to getting a Ph.D. in history from Temple University at the age of 68. His acclaimed books of presidential history include "The Upset That Wasn't," "Faith of Our Mothers" and "First Fathers."
