These classes will begin with some floor work to bring attention and interest to the particular body we inhabit and then the work will focus mostly on easy approaches to choreography, especially through the use of simple improvisation scores with an interest in playing especially with making short solo and group dances. These classes aim to be inclusive to all kinds of training and are for artists with a commitment to working with movement investigations.

Fiona Wright (b.1966 London) is currently based in Newcastle upon Tyne and has been making mostly live solo performance since the late 1980s, presenting in Dance and Live Art contexts in the UK and Internationally. Using choreography, writing and installation, her approach is located in movement research and influenced most by release, improvisation and other somatic practices such as Feldenkrais Method (awareness through movement). She is also a freelance lecturer, previously at Nottingham Trent University (1994-2001) and since then teaching at various places including Brighton, De Montfort, Crewe and Alsager, Sunderland and Northumbria.

Recent pieces have included a series of solo performance lectures titled other versions of an uncertain body, and also the solo salt drawing one of several short five minute works made for a solo spectator and repeated over several hours by the performer (seen at Serralves, Oporto 2004 and Baltic 2005). She has also made some group work as girl jonah and is currently touring a new duet collaboration under this name with Caroline Bowditch (this two).

Morning professional classes are £5 a session or free to Dance Connect members and take place at Dance City.
