Writer / Producer Craig Mazin to Speak in Glendale on Saturday, July 1st
Christopher Vogler and Craig Mazin will speak at the Alameda Writer's Group (AWG) meeting on Saturday, July 1st, 2006. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Glendale Central Library, 222 East Harvard St. Glendale, 91205.
Admission is free, and the library validates parking in the Good Guys parking structure at Harvard and Maryland.
Vogler is a motion picture producer, a story consultant to major movie companies, and the author of "The Writers Journey," a structure guide for writers which became required reading for executives in Hollywood. As a staff story consultant for the Walt Disney Company, he advised on the hit animated features, "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "Hercules," and "The Lion King." Currently, he consults for Warner Brothers Feature Animation, Walt Disney Imagineering, IBM and others. Having lectured for the UCLA Extension Writer's Program, Vogler has presented workshops worldwide, and is currently a faculty member of the USC Animation Department. Currently, he is producing an American remake of the Swedish comedy, "Breaking Out," along with Barry Levinson, Paula Weinstein, and the Swedish producers. Vogler's talk is titled, "The Search for Meaning; How Stories Make Us More Conscious and More Human."
Mazin is the co-writer of the hit comedies, "Scary Movie 3," and "Scary Movie 4." Since breaking out with the 1997 Disney comedy, "Rocketman," he has written in a variety of film genres including, romantic comedy, spoof, drama, and horror. These include Miramax screen adaptations of Phillip K. Dick's, "The Short Happy Life of the Brown Oxford," and the classic Broadway play, "Harvey." He also produced and directed the cult independent film, "The Specials." Mazin's talk, "The Job of the Screenwriter," will cover approaching a job once the screenplay is sold; what to expect and how to avoid becoming a "one sale wonder."
The AWG presents lectures by novelists, screenwriters, agents, producers, and other industry professionals at free monthly meetings. In addition, AWG members may attend special interest groups that offer support and feedback for works-in-progress.
