AMERICAS LARGEST NATIONAL YOUTH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT HELD IN SINGLE WEEKEND KICKS OFF TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) AT LOOS FIELD HOUSE
7,000 of nations top young hoopsters boys and girls ages 8 to 18 to compete in
2007 National Basketball Championship July 26 - 28

WHO: Dallas is quickly developing a reputation for showcasing the nations most outstanding young basketball talent.

Just weeks ago, the Global Games attracted the nations best 19 and under players. This weekend North Texans will get a sneak peek at Americas youngest and most promising hoopsters boys and girls ages 8 to 18 with the arrival of the 2007 Basketball National Championship, considered Americas largest youth basketball tournament held in a single weekend. For the first time ever, the PrimeTime Sports National Championship Tournament has been approved by the NCAA. Since the tournaments are within the NCAA live dates, Division I, II, III and Junior College coaches are allowed to attend and observe prospects.

WHAT: Approximately 7,000 young basketball players comprising 600 teams are expected to participate in the four-day tournament, which has attracted players from Texas, the region and across the U.S. PrimeTime Sports, organizer of the tournament, has hosted more than 50 tournaments across the country during the past year to allow teams to qualify for the National Championship. In addition, a few deserving teams were issued at-large invitations.

The tournament kicks off tomorrow (Wed., July 25) with official opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. at DISDs Loos Field House. Festivities include opening remarks from former NBA player Orlando Woolridge, a chance for two people to win $25,000 each during a shoot-out contest and an appearance by Mavs Man.

Tournament play begins Thursday (July 26) at 8 a.m. at 45 courts located throughout North Texas, with the championship games slated for Sunday (July 29) on 12 courts. Some of the players in past National Championship tournaments have gone on to play at Big 12 colleges and even the NBA. Past participants include C.J. Miles, Terrell Harris and DWayln Roberts, to name a few.

The divisions are as follows: 3rd Grade Boys, 4th Grade Boys, 4th Grade Girls, 5th Grade Boys, 5th Grade Girls, 6th Grade Boys, 6th Grade Girls, 7th Grade Boys, 7th Grade Girls, 8th Grade Boys, 8th Grade Girls, 9th/10th Grade Boys, 9th/10th Grade Girls, 11th/12th Grade Boys Open, 11th/12th Grade Girls Open and High School Boys Division.

Admission is $9 for all games at all gyms the day of purchase, and a Tournament Pass is $25 (for all games at all gyms for all days). Daily youth admission (for ages 6-18) is $4, and a Tournament Pass is $10. Children 5 and under are free.

BACKGROUND: The PrimeTime Sports National Basketball Championship is headquartered in the North Dallas area, with gyms located throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on July 25-29, 2007. The National Championship offers outstanding competition, excellent facilities and many family-oriented activities.

The PrimeTime Sports National Championship is the fastest growing youth national basketball tournament in the country. Last year, 583 teams participated in the National Championship and more than 600 teams are expected this year. More than 7,000 players, coaches and fans attended the opening ceremonies at the historic Loos Field House. Prior speakers include Avery Johnson (Dallas Mavericks Head Coach), Fran Franschilla (ESPN), Phil Martelli (St. Joseph University Head Coach), Cynthia Cooper, Derek Harper (former Dallas Maverick player and current commentator), Wayne Simien, and Greg Dreiling.
