President’s Lecture Series: Dr. Guy Proulx
"The Aging Brain: How Art and Design are Changing the Way We Care"
Wed., Nov. 28, 2007, 6:30 pm

Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) President Sara Diamond invites you to attend a thought-provoking lecture series responding to some of the key themes of OCAD’s strategic plan, Leading in the Age of Imagination. The President’s Lecture Series features speakers who will discuss the impact of art and design on sustainability, aging and wellness, and contemporary ethics.

Dr. Guy Proulx is the Director of Psychology at Baycrest, one of the world's premier academic health sciences centers focused on aging. He specializes in the assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive disorders in people who have brain damage.

Dr. Proulx will discuss the ways in which art is a gift providing light and creativity taking dementia out of the darkness of pathology. In his words, “Memory has evolved as a wonderous time traveling machine that allows us to recapture the past or imagine possible futures. The power of art and environmental design can do much to reduce excessive disability associated with the aging brain and its related diseases. Confused minds are too often the results of disabling environments and crippling attitudes.”

All are welcome to attend, and admission is free. All presentations take place in the OCAD Auditorium at 100 McCaul Street, Toronto. Limited seating available; guests are advised to arrive early.
