Présentation Facil: OpenStreetMap August 16, 2007

On August 16th, starting at 19:00, at the Centre de recherche informatique de Montréal (CRIM, 550 Sherbrooke W, office 100, near metro Mc Gill), Alistair Boyle will be presenting the OpenStreeMap project, a free editable map of the whole world.

OpenStreetMap allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on Earth. The project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways.

A 10$ contribution is suggested, to cover transportation costs of the presenter.

The presentation will be in English.

Ces présentation portent sur des sujets techniques ou sociaux-économiques associés à l’informatique libre.

Elles ont généralement lieu les 3ième jeudi de chaque mois au Centre de recherche informatique de Montréal, 550 rue Sherbrooke ouest, bureau 100, à Montréal (près du métro Mc Gill). Elles sont suivies par les rencontres mensuelles informelles.

FACIL est une association à but non lucratif qui fait la promotion de l’informatique libre au Québec. FACIL organise la Semaine québécoise de l’informatique libre, des présentations mensuelles au sujet de l’informatique libre, et organise ou participe à plusieurs autres activités au sujet des logiciels libres et des standards ouverts.
