Preparation for Buy Nothing Day and "The Church of the Holy Consumption" (inspired by Reverend Billy www.revbilly.com). The Culture Jammers will be donning choir robes, singing various hymns, and preaching the gospel of stop-shopping, in various shopping malls and sprawling, consumer-clusterf__ks (aka strip malls). Although "Buy Nothing Day" is on the 24th of November, we are planning this action for Saturday, the 25th of November in order to better accommodate folks and maximize the potential utilization of consumer apathy.
Why:
Dagnabbit! To preach the Good Word. To culture jam. To have fun. To get together. To be part of a community of activists and people that give a crap. To help create that same community. To fight injustice and mindless consumption.
Where:
The Arusha Centre
The Old Y Building,
#106, 223 - 12 Avenue SW
Calgary, Alberta

When:
Saturday, November 11th
14:00 - 17:00 (2PM to 5PM)
What to Bring:
Scissors and sewing machines if you have 'em. A singing voice - or the will to try (like most of us) - and perhaps some lyrics or hymns you think we might use. Yourself, even if you don't have anything to bring, other than your own bad breath.
Remember, this is preparation for the day after "Buy Nothing Day", and not "Buy Nothing Day" itself. Come out. Have a good time. Make fun of Donald Rumsfeld. Change the World.

Yay, though we walk through the valley of the shadow of unbridled consumption, we shall bring together machines of sewing and hymns of unconsuming praise that we mightst prepare to go out amongst the consuming heathens in their strip malls of idolatry and big box stores of dollar worship, on this 24th day of November, heretofore known as Buy Nothing Day, to preach the glory of stop-shopping.
