Stephen Sondheim Performance to benefit AIDS Foundation Houston

WHAT: In partnership with Society for the Performing Arts (SPA), AIDS Foundation Houston (AFH) is selling tickets to SPA's presentation of “An Evening with Stephen Sondheim”. Advance ticket prices range from $50 to $275 and include a tax-deductible donation to AFH, exceptional seating, and exclusive benefits for top-level ticket holders. WHO: A world-renowned composer and lyricist, Sondheim is the most important artist to work in the American musical theatre over the past half-century and has been the single most influential force in bringing the Broadway musical into the modern age. During his live, unscripted conversation with New York Times columnist and former chief drama critic, Frank Rich, Sondheim will reminisce about his career, including his collaborations with Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins and Tim Burton. Sondheim will also reflect specifically on his early shows Gypsy and West Side Story to such later classics as Company, Follies and Sweeney Todd.

WHY: In Houston there is one new infection every eight hours and 36 percent of new infections occur in young people, ages 15-24. There is no cure for HIV/AIDS. Seventy five percent of AIDS Foundation Houston’s clients live on $10,000 or less and lack the resources for housing and basic necessities.
