La Peña presents “Preambulo” sketches and studies by Alejandro Goga. The art exhibit takes place May 14th through June 4th at its downtown gallery at 227 Congress Avenue. The show opens Friday, May 14th with a reception from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and also features music by Mexican classical guitarist Buzz Guerra.

Alejandro Goga is an artist from the border area of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico and Brownsville, Texas who exhibits his work on both sides. Bones, skulls, and skeletons are the basic elements Goga uses in his art. Although skeletons and the idea of death may be difficult for some people to accept, he says “To die is as nautral as being born.” Rather than being morbid, his portrayals often have whimsical qualities that capture the personalities of the subjects.
