Today, 9 out of 10 mothers choose to breastfeed in California, and most plan to continue even after they return to work. The new Federal requirements under FLSA require employers to provide time and a private space for nursing employees. How do you provide these accommodations when space is limited?

Robbie Gonzalez-Dow, MPH, RD, CLE
Robbie Gonzalez-Dow, is the Executive Director of the California Breastfeeding Coalition, a non-profit organization working with local breastfeeding coalitions and other partners for a healthier California. As a Registered Dietitian and Certified Lactation Educator with a Master's Degree in Public Health, Robbie forwards action to remove barriers to breastfeeding so that mothers can fulfill their breastfeeding goals. She has been helping businesses find practical solutions to support nursing employees in the workplace, while complying with California's Lactation Accommodation law, and the Federal Break Time for Nursing Mothers requirement under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). These efforts focus on the low-wage earner, and challenging workplaces with space limitations. Her work with Reiter Berry Company and Affiliates will be highlighted as a best practice, in the Office of Women's Health new online searchable data base, that provides businesses with examples of how to provide time and space for nursing employees to pump at work. Robbie lives in Pacific Grove with her husband, three dogs and one cat where they own and operate a fitness studio.
