pounds per square inch performance and The New Alt Performance Group present Four Mad Humours, a bi-national, interdisciplinary, real-time, networked dance theatre work that links Buffalo and Toronto in a performance at The Theatre Centre from November 2 – November 5.

Choreographed, written and directed by Toronto-based pounds per square inch's artistic director Gerry Trentham, Four Mad Humours includes four solo works based on the Elizabethan Humours once thought to make up a human being – sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic that delve into questions about the nature of madness.

Two simultaneous programs are presented in Buffalo and Toronto. In Toronto, Linnea Swan with Phlegmatic (Shades of Blue) and Gerry Trentham with Choleric (Yellow Scale) premiere at The Theatre Centre.

Simultaneously, Amy Taravella and James Morrow perform Sanguine (Degrees of Red) and Melancholy (Measured in Green) respectively at Buffalo New York's ALT Theatre which will be projected in real time alongside the other work. Audiences in Toronto and Buffalo will experience a live performance and a live-feed virtual performance at the same time.

Conceived and developed with Trentham's long time collaborator Jamie O'Neil, the four solos explore the range of human physicality, sound, speech and disposition. They illuminate distinctive human drives – life-long, often hidden desires that guide day-to-day intentions and journeys, and shape lives. Each explores the deep edge of one of the four humours and its related element.

The simultaneous performances draw attention to the paradox of focussing on a single present event while knowing that this event is a small detail within an epic world of activity and madness.
