Gustav Mahler’s breathtaking Der Abschied (The Farewell) from Das Lied von der Erde is set in the context of the traditional Chinese music and poetry that inspired it.
The Post-Classical Ensemble’s program is complemented by the premiere of a work, “The Song of the Earth,” commissioned by the Clarice Smith Center, by Chinese-American composer Zhou Long. Through music and narrative, experience what happens when cultural boundaries are crossed by intrepid creative spirits. Stay for the post-performance Talk Back from the stage with the artists.
