There is an incredible, colourful, diverse world hidden from our eyes right underneath the surface of the water. A world that is unique, but fragile and is in great need of our protection. Researchers across the world are exploring this wonderful world in a hope to better understand it and develop plans for how to protect it from ever rising human impact threats, such as polusion, coastal development, global climate change. This course is designed to introduce students to current marine research and its importance, give students basic idea of how research studies are designed, sampling design and process. The course will also introduce students to various threats to marine environments and to the environmental impact assessment techniques. Students will have the chance to run their own experiments, design their own environmental impact studies and develop various research skills. No previous experience and knowledge is required, just an open mind, ability to think outside the square, willingness to get your hands dirty and of course a ready passion for the environment. Mathematical skills could be beneficial, but not compulsory. This course is suitable for students in Years 5 to 6. Details of this event may be subject to change.
