This class is a beginning course and it is intended for students fluent in Spanish who have a basic background in Brazilian Portuguese. This class emphasizes oral and written communication skills using Spanish as a reference, and by the end of this program, the student will be able to use Portuguese in everyday conversations. This class will cover: pronunciation (comparing Portuguese and Spanish sounds); grammar (diphthongs, object pronouns; negative adjectives, pronouns and adverbs); verb conjugation (imperfect, passive voice, review of other indicative tenses); vocabulary (body parts, the city, food, etc) and culture (we start reading about Brazilian history and culture). Also, conversation structures will be used in the class. THE INSTRUCTOR WILL BE SPEAKING PORTUGUESE DURING THE WHOLE SESSION. This class runs for 8 weeks, and meets once a week for 2 hours. The instructor for this class is a native Brazilian of Spanish ascendance, who has taught Portuguese and Spanish in different capacities for over 6 years.
