On Friday, May 9, the de Young Museum presents an evening filled with cultural performances and activities. Groove to the sounds of the electronic duo Land Sound, whose music is made by using a combination of laptops and live electronics. Fauxnique, the drag-queen alter-ego of Monique Jenkinson, and friends perform a reprise of Lip-Synching Sculpture, a glamour and drag tinged re-interpretation of Gilbert and George’s classic work Singing Sculpture. DJ’s PeePlay and Jason Kendig of Honey Soundsystem perform in Wilsey Court this Friday, 6–8:30 pm. Robert Hass, 2008 Pulitzer Prize recipient and former U.S. Poet Laureate, along with poets Brenda Hillman, Bill Berkson, and Maxine Chernoff will lead visitors on a walking and poetry-reading tour of the American Galleries. Museum admission required for the poetry reading, but there is no additional charge. The walking and poetry-reading tour begins in the American Art Galleries at 7 pm. In the art activity on May 9, visitors can create a street art version of their name using markers and colored pencils. There are docent tours of Gilbert & George each Friday at 7 pm, and dinner and drinks are available in the de Young Café.

Regular gallery admission prices apply on Friday nights. Admission includes access to all festivities including live music and interactive art projects.
