Martyn Crucefix will read from and talk about translating Sonnets to Orpheus.

In fifty-five sonnets Rainer Maria Rilke plays an astonishing set of philosophical and sensual variations on the Orpheus myth.

René Karl Wilhelm Johann Josef Maria Rilke (4 December 1875 – 29 December 1926), better known as Rainer Maria Rilke, was a Bohemian-Austrian poet. He is considered one of the most significant poets in the German language.

Martyn Crucefix works as poet, teacher, reviewer, critic, translator and competition judge. He is a tutor with the Poetry School in London. Martyn has published four poetry collections, and the most recent one Hurt was published in 2010.

Enitharmon published his translation of Rainer Maria Rilke’s Duino Elegies in 2006 and it was shortlisted for the Corneliu M Popescu Prize. Enitharmon has just published Martyn’s new translation of Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus.
