Poetics of the Handmade will feature a group of artists from Latin America who explore possibilities of objects created by hand. While many of their contemporaries seem to be working in the post-studio vein with artisans or collaborators producing their work, the artists in Poetics of the Handmade explore the relationship between the everyday and the art experience. Their interest in transformation has led them to create works that are modest in scale and painstakingly handcrafted from a wide range of materials. The exhibition is curated by MOCA Associate Curator Alma Ruiz and is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.
