Have you ever wanted to walk out of your life?
Marti did.

“NNNN License to Thrill. Hilarious and thoughtful… emotionally compelling, visually elegant… the very best thing about Poetic License is Batdorf’s humour… the highlight of my week, possibly my month.” NOW Magazine

“Wonderful… one of the most humorous, note-perfect performances I’ve seen all year” Eye Weekly

“Played brilliantly by Erika Batdorf… binds the actor and the spectators together… an experience on stage that can ignite a change in you.” Bangkok Post

Moleman Productions is thrilled to announce the return of the three time Dora Award nominated Poetic License, starring critically acclaimed performer Erika Batdorf. The hit play returns to Toronto February 15, 2008 at the Factory Studio Theatre after being performed at the seventh Women Playwrights International (WPI) in Jakarta. The show reunites an award winning team including director Todd Hammond, multi-Dora nominated set and costume designer Teresa Pryzbylski.

Theatre, movement and interactive talk show meet in this daring, entertaining and transporting remount of Erika Batdorf’s 2005 critical success. Meet Marti, a creative writing professor at the brink of walking out on her life. In the midst of a lecture she falls apart, exposing her struggle to balance writing, motherhood and academia. In the process, she challenges the world of words, hierarchical education and objectivity. Does she walk out on her job, her kids, her whole life? A guardian angel appears and together with the audience, helps Marti navigate through her journey away from paralysis. A third character, physically paralyzed and full of humour, challenges the audience to examine desire in the context of eternity. Enter this funny, magical world where poetry is edible, ruffian angels describe paradise and the audience is fed an unexpected meal.

Poetic License includes poetry by Yeats, Blake, Kerouac, Tahirih (an Iranian poetess who was killed in the 1840's), Oliver, Ginsberg, Baudelaire, Pound, Wilde, Plath, Eliot and Artaud.
