Plymouth will again honour Britain’s Armed Forces past and present during the National Armed Forces Week.

There is a substantial programme of planned events throughout the whole city which include:

Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 June from 10am to 4pm
Knightstone Tea Rooms, Yelverton
Open weekend at the Knightstone Tea Rooms, Yelverton on the site of RAF Harrowbeer the former World War II RAF Fighter Station. See exhibitions, the historic archive and have a guided tour.

Sunday 19 June
Guided walk around Ford Park Cemetery. 'The Armed Forces and Ford Park Cemetery' will be conducted by Mr. Rod Pickles. Time to be confirmed.

Monday 20 June at 12 noon
Hoisting of the Armed Forces Day Flag
The ceremonial hoisting of the Armed Forces Day Flag on the Guildhall flagpole in the presence of the Lord Mayor of Plymouth and senior naval, military, civic guests and school children.

Monday 20 June from 6.30pm to 9pm
Old Admiralty House, Mountwise, Devonport
A presentation, 'Devonport Dockyard’s contribution to the Falklands War and the 25th Anniversary Dinner at HMS Drake in 2007'. This will be an evening with Mr. Jack Bedbrook, Managing Director of Devonport Royal Dockyard from 1979 to 1984.

Tuesday 21 June at 1.10pm
A lunchtime illustrated talk at the City Museum by Commander Charles Crichton, 'The heritage of support to the Royal Navy at Plymouth'. This talk will feature the construction of the great North Yard extension, which when opened in 1905 made Devonport Dockyard the biggest in the world.

Tuesday 21 June at 3.30pm and Thursday 23 12.30pm and 3.30pm
Water cruise
Join Commander Charles Crichton for a water cruise to view Plymouth’s historic Naval and Military waterfront and the Naval Base. Depart from the Mayflower pontoon on the Barbican for a tour lasting 1 hour 15 minutes.

Wednesday 22 June from 2.30pm to 5pm
Old Admiralty House, Mountwise, Devonport
Local and visiting veterans to Plymouth are invited to a free afternoon tea party hosted by the Federation of Plymouth and District Ex-Service Associations.

Friday 24 June at 12 noon
Door of Unity Commemoration Service
The annual Door of Unity Commemoration service at the Minster Church of St Andrew, Plymouth.

Saturday 25 June from 10am to 5.30pm
Armed Forces Day on Plymouth Hoe

This wonderful day for the whole family includes exhibitions and displays on land, sea and air, featuring the Armed Forces, veterans, Cadet Forces, Merchant Navy, support agencies and charities, the Emergency Services and the young people of Plymouth - all against the stunning background of Plymouth Sound and the distant horizon.

The day will include the annual RAF and Allied Air Forces Monument Service and a grand parade review to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Royal British Legion. Marching bands will include the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, the Massed Band of the South West Pipes and Drums and the young people of the Plymouth Youth Music Service.

Saturday 25 June at 7pm
Armed Forces Day Concert
An Armed Forces Day Concert at the Minster Church of St Andrew, Plymouth given by the Plymouth Youth Concert Band and the HMS Drake Volunteer Band.

Sunday 26 June from 11.30am to 5.30pm
Poppy party on Plymouth Hoe
To mark their 90th Anniversary the Royal British Legion will host a great 'Poppy Party' with entertainment for young and old where everyone can come together to acknowledge the wonderful work undertaken by the Royal British Legion. The day will also include opportunities to join in the 'Tea Dance' a tradition dating back to World War II and celebrated each year by the Plymouth Senior Citizens’ Forum.
