Time to tempt your palate with all the pleasurable flavors that Southern California has to offer. Join Pleasure Palate as we do some culinary exploring of restaurants (both high-end and holes in the walls), various food and beverage tastings, cooking classes, potlucks and so much more. From savory to sweet, from salty to sour, from spicy to tangy, from exotic to All-American, we'll taste it all, so come along and take your taste buds on the ride of their life. Today, we'll be sampling various Mexican fresh fruit creations (both beverages and mixed fruit) at Nevera Fresh Fruit Creations!

For centuries, the people of Mexico have enjoyed a variety of fresh fruit creations from recipes and mixes that are inherited by their ancestors and are passed on from generation to generation. These fruit works are mainly in the form of fresh natural mixes for raspato (shaved ice), liquato (smoothies), juices (natural fruit juices), fresca (refreshing natural drinks) and fruto & pico d'gallo(fruit cocktails).

A lot of you may familiar with horchata, but believe me, there's a whole another world out there ready for tasting. For example, there's the Vampiro that is well-known in Mexico and is a juice mixture of orange, carrot and beets. Then there's a shaved ice mixture that is made up of tamarid, mango and chamoy. Both are interesting combinations that may seem very unfamiliar to us; yet, they've been a part of Mexican culinary culture for a very long time.

For this tasting at Nevera and for just $15, we will be spending time with Raul Rodriguez, owner of Nevera. Raul will be giving us some history and background about not only traditional Mexican beverages, but also about how fruits are prepared and seasoned for the Mexican palate and why.

Along with gaining some new knowledge, we'll also be sampling everything from shaved ice to smoothies to juices as well as the bionico, a Mexican version of fruit salad and pico de gallo, which is fruit seasoned with chili and lime. Also included will be a demo on how some of the beverages are made and one or two of you may even get a chance to try your hand at juicing or smoothie making yourselves.

All in all, it'll definitely be a deliciously educational event, so hopefully, you'll come out and join us!
