Time to tempt your palate with all the pleasurable flavors that Southern California has to offer. Join us as we do some culinary exploring of restaurants (both high-end and holes in the walls), various food and beverage tastings, cooking classes, potlucks and so much more. From savory to sweet, from salty to sour, from spicy to tangy, from exotic to All-American, we'll taste it all, so come along and take your taste buds on the ride of their life. This afternoon's event will be all about the delicious grilled cheese sandwiches at Meltdown, etc in Culver City!
Not far from the Ford's Filling Station hubbub, Meltdown etc. is one of those just-right creations with a killer concept, fresh ingredients, little details done right, and cheese. Lots and lots of cheese.
There's not much to it in terms of decor: Just a small order counter, drink cooler and a few tables inside and on the sidewalk. But there's a bottle opener on the wall next to the cooler, and there's a container of extra napkins on top of the trash can outside.
And napkins, of course, are important accompaniments to a classic three-cheese (sharp chedder, muenster, fontina), a cheddar, ham and apple butter (which we tried and now dream dirty dreams about), or a turkey melt with brie, arugula and cranberry-horseradish mustard on olive bread.
Recently added breakfast options include a smoked samon melt. Owner Ryan Afromsky could've skated by with a lower-rent, fast-food version of the idea, but the extras (we had a side of carrot-dill soup on the day of our first visit) inspire a heaping side portion of goodwill. Just like we had for mom the first time she made us a sandwich.
Being a cheesehead myself, I couldn't resist settng up a grilled cheese tasting at Meltdown, etc., so for $30 or $32 (via Pay Pal), you will get the following:
Classic 3 Cheese - Sharp Cheddar, Meunster, Fontina, Roma Tomato on Sourdough Bread
Cheddar, Ham & Apple - Sharp Cheddar, Smoked Ham, Apple Butter on Sourdough Bread
Turkey Melt - Brie, Oven-Roasted Turkey, Arugula, Cranberry-Horseradish Mustard on Walnut Bread
Brie & Apricot - Brie Cheese and Apricot Preserves on Walnut Bread
Goat Cheese, Fig & Honey - Goat Cheese, Wildflower Honey, Fig Preserves on Walnut Bread

Your choice of beverage
Doesn't sound like a delicious way to spend an afternoon? Between all the grilled cheese goodness and meeting up with other cheeseheads, I'd say that this event is one not to miss!
