This event is part of my themed dining events called "The Feast." Every other month, I will be organizing a pre-set family-style menu at various restaurants focusing on a specific type of cuisine. It's a way to sample foods you may not be familiar with normally and all in the company of other food lovers. September's "Feast" is all about experiencing tasty Burmese dishes at Golden Triangle.

Overview of Burmese Cuisine History

The Burmese cuisine is actually the cuisine of Myanmar, as this is the name of the former Burma. It has gathered, in time, influences from India, China and Thailand. It must be noted that the Burmese only used concepts from these cuisines for inspiration. They have traditional cooking methods and dishes of their own. Hence, the Burmese cuisine has an identity.

The country has been under British domination, until 1948. Britons might be responsible for some elements of the Burmese cuisine, but it is a certain fact that the strongest influences come from the Asian countries.

The soups and dishes are prepared in a Chinese way; the spices are Indian-like and people can observe in some dishes the American and European concepts.

People have adapted these ideas to the local environment and to the local taste. They have created variations of the Chinese and Indian dishes by adding or removing ingredients and by using certain techniques.

As you can see, Burmese food is in its own way very much like fusion cuisine and for our feast at Golden Triangle, you'll definitely see that fusion taking place.

For just $30, your meal will include the following:

Ginger Salad
shredded ginger tossed with coconut, garlic, yellow peas, ground peanuts and sesame seeds with lemon sauce

Tofu Salad
housemade tofu with cabbage and onions

Dai Kon Vegetable Sour Soup in Hot Pot

Samusa
deep fried, wrapped triangular shape filled with potatoes, peas, onion and spices and comes with tamarind-based sauce

Falafil
a mixture of split peas, onion and natural spices that are deep fried and comes with cucumber relish

Panthe Kauekswe
egg noddle, chicken curry, bell pepper and tomatoes, stir-fried

Myam Beef Curry (Ame-hnat)
with potatoes and special sauce

Pork Curry
pork with homemade curry sauce

Burmese Shrimp
sauteed shrimp with sliced tomatoes, onions and Chef's special sauce

Burmese Dun Bauk Htamin
baked rice, herbs and chicken

Chicken Kabob
chicken, tomatoes and onions sauteed together

Shue Gi Mok
creamy dessert made up of raisins and coconut milk

This will definitely be a meal to remember, so hopefully, you'll be able to join in what will be an exotic feast.

COST:
This dinner needs to Pre-Paid by September 10 to reserve your spot and your payment will cover the entire meal plus one soft drink and includes tax and tip.

* If you are paying via check, the cost will go down to $30 and you'll have to email me for an address to send the check to.

IMPORTANT: You cannot just show up for this dinner. I need to collect all the money and give that to Golden Triangle by September 10 in one lump sum. I also need to turn in a final headcount that same day so that they will know how much food to prepare. This dinner is first come, first served. The first 15 who pay the fee will get to go.
