Dir. Alexander Adolph, 2008/ 2009, color, 92min, digital, German with English subtitles, digital proj.
Devid Striesow is brilliant in the role of impostor Frank, who, after a stint in jail, tries to earn his living in an honest way.
He's young, wealthy, charming, generous, spontaneous. Indeed, the gentleman offering to buy a young woman, a perfect stranger, the expensive coat she covets seems too good to be true. And he is.
After 30 convictions, four years in jail and two years on probation, Frank is back in the slammer for another two years.
Upon his release, he's taken in by his brother Peter and Peter's girlfriend Marie.
It's a collision of two worlds, with straight-arrow web designer Peter and harried fast-food restaurant manager Marie increasingly vexed by Frank's "inventive" way of life.
He can't help pretending and swindling, cheating and deceiving. Or can he?
Just as it seems he might be on the road to normality, he meets the young woman he had offered the coat to. Tanja, it turns out, is a prostitute, and Frank, who is genuinely falling in love with her, now applies all his cunning and deceit to wheedle enough money out of the greedy and gullible to pay off Tanja's debts and buy her freedom...
