There are three Native women?a doctor, a movie star, and a lone woman?on an island. There was a mother, a Native woman from Oklahoma seeking a better life for herself and her three daughters. There is a work relocation program that didn?t work. There is a murder. There is a grand weaver who weaves these stories together, shedding an uneasy light on Los Angeles, its underground tunnels, and the lives of urban Indians caught in the political chaos that was the 1970s.
