Did you manage to make it through the summer without having a picnic?
Did you somehow while away the entire season without catching the Creaking Planks ( http://www.myspace.com/creakingplanks ) performing even one of their numerous free shows?

(Even if the above do not apply to you, so long as you are in the general vicinity of Vancouver, you are equally welcome to what follows.)

Vancouver's weather of late having so rudely reminded us what it has in store for us just around the corner, we determined to make the most of what summer remains to us and squeeze the last drops out of it, convoking a musical picnic-performance this Saturday afternoon, from 3 to 6 pm, in a pastoral sylvan glade in the UBC Endowment lands (now Pacific Spirit Park -- map at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PSTrails.jpg ), snacking with friends while enjoying light music on dark themes. (Crowd requests accompanied by lyric and chord sheets may be humoured.)

What's not to like? Picnic, sun, music, forest, friends, free: if you need any further excuse, you are already lost. Will you join us or will we be the toast of the trees and dog-walkers? Either way, with those collective forces aligned, merely by participating we win.

The designated clearing is the site of the old Clinton stables (the most straightforward access is achieved by entering through the trailhead at Camosun and 33rd Avenue -- Google map at http://tinyurl.com/lgs4a -- and following the trail west for a few minutes.) On transit, the 25, 41 and 7 buses are your best bets for closest drop-off proximity. ( http://tripplanning.translink.bc.ca/ )

If you are more timid than I (what, does your instrument turn to mush when it gets wet?), feel free to consult weather prediction services ( http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/71892.html ) -- suspiciously, the reports are only improving the closer we get to the date.

Please feel free to bring whatever you consider to be necessary picnic supplies, and to spread the word along to anyone who might take us up on our challenge.
