The Gilbert and Sullivan Society at the University of Michigan (UMGASS) proudly presents Pirates of Penzance! In this bit of folly, a budding romance between an orphan pirate and a Major General's daughter is thwarted by class discrimination. In an intricate plot twist, the problem is resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Swordplay and song are aptly presented by an outstanding musical cast supported by a full orchestra.

UMGASS welcomes Conrad and Ann Mason, long-time participants in the Washtenaw County theater scene, in their debut with the Society as director and choreographer of Pirates of Penzance. Austin Stewart, a UM conducting major and veteran of five shows, is music director. David Andrews, well-known comedic actor is in the role of Major General Stanley. He is joined by Jeffrey Willits, Eberwhite music teacher, as the Pirate King; and Josh Borths as Frederic and Kelly Hedgspeth as Mabel, both voice performance majors at the UM School of Music. Andrea Boswell-Burns, a recent transplant from Kansas City, plays Ruth in her third Pirates.

This will be the second show to feature supertitles, enabling the audience to decipher the fast and furious patter songs for which Gilbert and Sullivan are well known.

Performances are:
Thu, Fri, Sat, April 2-4 at 8 pm
Sat and Sun, April 4 and 5 at 2 pm
