A Christmas dinner project

Many of our cities homeless people will benefit this winter from the sales of unique images produced by acclaimed music art photographer, Karen McBride.

Following a hugely successful October 2007 live photography event and month long exhibition at the Greenroom in Manchester. The cities most celebrated female photographer has relocated her work to the nearby (gorgeous) Lass O Gowrie Inn on Charles Street. It is from here that the works will sell to raise funds for a Christmas day project organised and run by the homelessness charity, Lifeshare.

Manchester music photographer Karen McBride began her trailblazing career in the early nineties photographing her brother’s band. In the years that followed she began to develop a style and flair that has often been described as, ‘savvy’, ‘sexy’ and ‘ intelligently persuasive’. This cheeky combination has since propelled her into the realms of the ‘carpet flying, gig-hopping elite. It has also marked her out as one of the most independent and outstanding woman of her generation.

Karen initially became motivated to donate proceeds from the sales of her work to Lifeshare by becoming a volunteer in December 2006. Although Karen states that, this is in no way a political statement. She is without a doubt, acutely aware that everyone is entitled to a Christmas dinner and presents during the festive season. The guests at lifeshare, she says, “ Are people who have fallen on sad times who simply need someone to talk to over the Christmas period”. “I want to help in any way that I can and I know that lifeshare will be able to use the money to improve the health of those who need it most”.

In the weeks leading up to the Greenroom exhibition, Karen met Gareth Kavanagh (co-owner of the Lass O Gowrie) on BBC Manchester’s Heather Stott show. Gareth quickly became interested in Karen’s work and subsequently offered to display her work in his pub free of charge. Gareth came up with the idea to formally launch the display and sale of her work with a kicking live band in mid December 2007. So, get down to the Lass this Christmas, grab a pie, buy a pint and purchase a particularly persuasive picture!
