Beethoven's piano concerti are a testament to the composer’s enormous creativity and his undisputed place in the piano repertoire. Like his symphonies and sonatas, the piano concerti not only are the cornerstones of the classical style, but also forge the way to the Romantic period.

On Thursday, August 13, 2008 7pm at Merkin Concert Hall the Piano Passions’ pianists end their 2009 concert season with a collaboration with Ensemble du Monde, chamber orchestra, performing Beethoven’s concerto No. 3, 4 & 5.

ENSEMBLE DU MONDE
Marlon Daniel, Music Director & Conductor

Ensemble du Monde

Founded in New York City in 2000 this dynamic young chamber orchestra, Ensemble du Monde (Ensemble of the

World), was so named because of its representation of international musicians, currently representing over thirteen countries.

The orchestra performs throughout the New York area, the United States and abroad.

In 2000 the ensemble was selected by Daimler Chrysler and Mercedes Benz to perform at the world première inauguration of

their new MAYBACH Car, an event that received worldwide multimedia press coverage. A Lincoln Center début followed in

2002 and in 2004 the ensemble made its Carnegie Hall début, which included renowned soprano, Deborah Voigt and the

New York City Gay Men's Chorus. Frequent radio broadcast have included Radio Free Europe where selections from the

ensemble's popular 'Baroquen Promises' Series at Tenri Cultural Institute of New York were broadcast internationally. This past

July 2007 the ensemble was featured in a world premiere live performance of the “Save the Goldfish” episode from

Nickelodeon’s EMMY winning show the‘Wonder Pets’ at New York’s Javits Center.

Led by its Music Director and Conductor, Marlon Daniel, the ensemble performs music from the Baroque era to the Avant-

Garde in addition to the standard Classical repertoire. It frequently plays overlooked masterpieces and world premières.

Programs are usually thematic in nature and based on the concept of presenting a variety great music not limited by

cultural, musical or stylistic boundaries. To encompass this vast repertoire the orchestra expands and contracts, which allows

the group maximum "flexibility" to perform as a small chamber group or a full-scale symphony orchestra.

Upcoming performances include a series of orchestral concerts dedicated to French composers from the 19th through the

21st centuries, "Current Concerti" a project that allows talented young composers to exhibit their newly created concertos in

world première performances, concert performances Bizet’s Carmen in Concert with some of the most talented up and

coming stars of the opera world at Allice Tully Hall and a Zankel Hall début in collaboration with Opera Ebony.

The orchestra currently resides at Merkin Hall, Kaufman Center in New York, where it performs a series of innovative concerts

throughout the year.
