The groundbreaking jazz pianist-composer Jason Moran, a 2010 MacArthur Fellow (aka "Genius Award" winner), gathers some of the hottest players currently in New York City (212) by way of Houston (713) for two unforgettable nights of music. Houston's High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) was a breeding ground for much of the talent that is now transforming the jazz and R&B world. Jan 14 features a lineup of songwriters, including R&B's wunderkind Bryan Michael Cox, backed by various ensembles from the collected group. Jan 15 is devoted to jazz and its many shades, including an interview hosted by Moran's high school band director, Dr. Bob Morgan. Each evening will conclude with a jam session.
