This month we have a talk introducing SPL by Lorna Mitchell. The SPL (Standard PHP Library) isn't new by any means but it has yet to be widely adopted and there are some great features added in PHP 5.3. This talk takes a quick diversion through some OOP theory (SPL makes heavy use of interfaces so we'll recap on those) before taking a look at the highlights of this PHP Extension. We'll also cover the array-like structures, the excellent SPLException object, the file/directory functionality offered by SPL, and not forgetting those ubiquitous iterators (warning, attendees to this session will be introduced to the iterator drinking game!)

PHPNW (PHP North West) is a group focussing on the PHP web development language in the North-of-England.
