In this ten-week course, beginners are introduced to photography as a unique way to visualize and engage the world around them. Students learn to use the creative and technical possibilities of digital photography to make classic black and white images. Through lectures and demonstrations, students will learn the basics of operating Digital SLR cameras and processing images through Adobe Photoshop CS5.

This class runs simultaneously with the Photographic Vision I darkroom class, and covers the same curriculum from a digital perspective. Topics include camera operation, principles of exposure, composition, RAW file formats, white balance, and lighting.

Lectures on historical and contemporary photographers will explore different approaches to photography and assignments will develop photographic skills.

In addition to class sessions, students are strongly encouraged to attend optional shooting trips as well as museum and gallery visits.
