Philosophy of the Bedroom March 23, 2007

Beds by their charged nature, conjure a wide range of psychological, existential and socio-political states, which in turn have provided a rich source of imagery for artists and photojournalists alike. Beds have often been used by performance artists as a way of creating new relationships between performers and audiences. Beds have presented a recurrent theme throughout the history of art by their capacity to act as a mirror of the self and reflection of the human condition.Beds are also omnipresent in photojournalism, especially in the coverage of situations of conflict where the human condition is reduced to the bare essentials. This exhibition will show how the artistic product and the journalistic product, while arising out of very different sets of circumstances, can find a commonality in the final work itself, both in its aesthetic formal dimension and in its emotional resonance.
