Many philosophers from Buddha, Confucius, Plato and Aristotle, to Kant, Heidegger, Foucault and Suzuki, among many others, have reflected on enlightenment. It is not uncommon to see a number of their ideas, for example, on awakening, truth and illusion represented in popular film. One need only think of recent films like The Hurt Locker, Babel, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Star Trek as well as unforgettable classics like Faust, Kundun, Rashomon, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Blues Brothers and 8 1/2, among others. We shall explore the relevance and force of these ideas in modern cinema. Details of this event may be subject to change.
